Bad Timing Records - Kevin Devine - Matter of Time

Kevin Devine Matter of Time

Info

AVAILABLE NOW: This release will be one of the titles that is restocked as part of our 2020 Vault Release. The 2020 Vault Release will go on sale at 2pm EST on Tuesday, May 5th. Please note that the units we are releasing in this process have been moved back and forth across different warehouses, distributors and BTR headquarters. Some may have visible signs of damage, such as small splits in jackets -- but we have visually checked each unit to get rid of the ones we view as unacceptable. We will not be able to issue refunds or accept returns on sales from these units except in extreme circumstances, so please consider this before purchasing.

For this record, the units returning to stock will be all three variants from the first pressing. The stock for these is quite limited.

Kevin Devine fans know his live shows are a pretty sacred thing. KD is a unique musician in that he offers two extremes when it comes to his live performances: You can watch him play at a church alone with an acoustic guitar one month, then two months later catch him rocking a big club show in full force with The Goddamn Band.

Because of this variance, Kevin's songs tend to take on a new life as they're allowed to live and breathe throughout years of touring. That's why Matter of Time should be such a treasured part of the KevDev canon; it's an album recorded live in a Brooklyn studio, consisting of 15 songs, and, in the context of his great discography, it can feel criminally overlooked. It was recorded in 2012 following nearly two years of heavy touring with the same members of The Goddamn Band, and Kevin wanted to document the band as it sounded then: "Sharp, expansive, in charge of the songs instead of vice versa, and prone to bursts of exciting improvisation." (This comes from an essay KD wrote about the release, which you can find housed in its 2xLP jacket.)

You can pick up a digital copy of the remastered album on Bandcamp.

We think every Kevin Devine fan should know about this thing, so we've decided to bring it back to life a little bit, in about as awesome of a way as we could think. We've gotten it remastered (it sounds better than ever, you can stream it above) and brought it to vinyl for the first time with all-new artwork. This is a double LP housed in a gatefold jacket with some pretty crazy variants (check those out below) and all copies come with an immediate download of the remastered album.
